RESEARCH OUTREACH
Research Outreach provides advice and training of extension workers in problems associated with stored products and materials for storage structures, new insecticides, new storage equipment and techniques. The Department has units in NSPRI outstations in Ibadan, Lagos, Sapele, Port-Harcourt, Kano and Maiduguri apart from the headquarters in Ilorin. Each unit of the Department is assigned states of coverage on outreach services so that Nigeria is covered as a nation.
The Department is mandated to
- Carry out Extension planning and Research on crop storage, pest control, primary food processing and post-harvest value addition to crops.
- Carry out Field and Community Services.
- Production of print and electronic training materials.
- Providing methods to improve the skills and capacity building of the institute’s clienteles (farmers, industrialists, food handlers, exporters, e.t.c.).
- Providing advisory and consultancy services on post-harvest handlings and preservations of crops.
- Training of students on excursion from various secondary and tertiary institutions.
- Participation at various Agricultural shows.
- Adoption of schools and villages.
- Establish and Operate Agricultural Research Outreach Centres.
- Implement effective communication and community services.
- Conduct Agricultural Economics and Products Marketing.
- To carry out participatory programme planning, monitoring and evaluation.
- Process and analyse data within the Institute.
