ADMINISTRATION
The Administration department in NSPRI provides administrative support to the Governing Board, Executive Director and the Institute in general, towards the achievement of specific goals and the overall mandate of the Institute. In this regard, the administration department is mandated to provide support for the research and extension activities of the Institute through suitable personnel placement, maintenance of Infrastructures, proper custody of accurate personnel records, taking care of secretarial needs of the Institute including the Governing Board, coordinating of transport services, advising and guiding management on implementation of policies, strategies and administrative procedures as well as liaising with unions with a view to ensuring staff welfare and discipline.
The administration department makes use of various government books and circulars in the discharge of its functions. The books are used to interpret government policies and the decision of the Governing board and the Executive Director in the Institute.
KEY OPERATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Administration department performs the following functions to facilitate the attainment of the Institute’s mandate:
- Handling of secretarial needs of the Institute and her Governing Board
- Evaluating the Institute’s short term, medium and long-term staff requirements
- Coordinating the process of staff requirement, transfer and promotion
- Preparing, Implementing, monitoring and evaluating staff training and development
- Providing technical and operational support and guidance on the interpretation and application of government and Institute’s rules and regulations.
- Updating and preparing job description and closely administering the application of classification standards in line with the schemes of service
- Facilitating the provision of safe and secure working environment for staff.
- Developing and maintaining all staff records and related administrative procedures.
- Advising management on administrative policies and ensuring adherence to the approved structure of the Institute.
- Processing and linking up with related government agencies and other organization at ensuring prompt and regular payment of benefits to retired staff of the Institute.
- Liaising with recognized unions in the Institute to ensure industrial peace.
- Issuing circulars on decisions of the Governing Board and Management, and conveying decisions to staff concerned.
- Processing the registration of suitable contractors who may be considered to execute capital projects, procurement of equipment or provision of other services to the Institute and conveying approval to successful contractors as well as signing agreements as required.
- Liaising with the legal unit for the provision of legal services to the Institute.
- The department performs other related duties that may be assigned by the Executive Director from time to time.

FINANCE AND ACCOUNTS
Accounts and Finance department is an established department of Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute. It is headed by a Director who is a professional and seasoned accountant. The department has 5 units namely, Final Accounts, Personal Emolument, Treasury, Other Charges and Store. These units are headed by senior officers and have their responsibilities and schedule of duties spelt out in the Financial Regulations.The department has the responsibility of keeping all the books of accounts and financial transactions of the Institute as laid down by Federal Government financial regulations. It coordinates the preparation of the annual estimates and budget of the Institute and compares the actual expenditure and income on continuous basis with the estimates thereby facilitating budgetary control.
The department also prepares final accounts on annual basis. The Final accounts comprises of income and expenditure account, statement of affairs, source and application of funds and statement of value added.
The Final accounts information is for the use of the Federal Government, the house of assembly Tax office, the management of the Institute and donors to the Institute.
In discharging its responsibilities, the department keeps to the provisions of the financial regulations, statement of accounting standard and company and allied matter acts of 1990.
The department reports to the Chief Executive officer of the Institute.

INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION
The Department has a responsibility to acquire and organize the available information items for easy accessibility. The acquisition of information materials include; print and non-print materials.
However, most of the collections are developed to meet the mandate of the Institute, which is management of Postharvest of Agricultural produce, which include the following fields of study: Microbiology, Chemistry/Biochemistry and Agricultural Economics. Other reading materials that are not strictly along the mandate of the Institute are also acquired.
The usage of the library is open to all staff and other members of the public after they have been registered.
Also, the unit organizes Institute monthly seminar and as well participates in the production of Research News, a publication of the Institute that always provides information about the research activities of the Institute.
